Handsome Fellow by
Keith Wandell I've loved and I've lost. I've been discarded and tossed. I always forgive. That is my best trait. Now I'm here at Rescue, so I sit and I wait for my new family to come take me home, and while I wait, I won't be alone. I've made lots of friends, all my same kind, and my dogish behaviors they don't seem to mind. There's a knock at the door... How do I look? But they passed me by, and my neighbor they took. They passed me by 'cause I'm old and I'm gray. That's okay. My new family will find me some day. It's been a long time. Dogs have come and they've gone. Why won't anyone pick me? What am I doing wrong? Older dogs are good too. We're mild and mellow. Take a look. I'm still a handsome fellow. It's apparent now that I won't find a home But thanks to my rescuer's love, I don't feel alone. I left Rescue today after 15 great years not with smiles, but with sniffles and tears. I know I'll be missed. My presence was known. It doesn't matter now that I never found a home. My welfare was certain, and handled with care. And I'm forever greatful that Rescue was there. |
