B.U.D.D.I.E.S. Inc. Home of "The Pack"
Some History
B.U.D.D.I.E.S. Inc.
was originally established in 1991 as B.O.T.B. Rottweilers Inc. We had
an original breeding stock of one dog and two bitches imported from
Germany, Dalzen Von Schwaiger Wappen I, Olga Von MaAmaDeutchin, and
Blitza Von der SilderBistle. After devising a breeding program to grow
our stock, we were producing high end Rottweilers of non-domestic
lines.
Once
our breeding stock was up to 12 dogs total, we started experiencing
some major interaction issues, fights and pack maulings. We even lost a
dog as a result of a pack fight. We consulted with leading experts in
our area on canine behavior to hopefully resolve the issues. The only
advice we were offered was to keep them isolated form each other and
refrain from mingling them together.
Finding
this unacceptable we did lots of research and found an expert down in
Australia who we contacted for advice. The man has a business that
relies on his pack of 35 dogs. For hire he goes to ranches and his dogs
are active against and kill predators threatening livestock for the
ranchers. He never experienced serious fights. His advice to us was to,
"Leave them be!" and that they would settle any disputes from within
the pack without any human intervention.
We
followed his advice though it was very hard at times and he was right.
This prompted us to do even more research on the subject of pack
mentalities and we were astounded at what we found. The answer was to
actually regress their mentalities and allow their natural instincts
and drives to kick in. We were on our way to having an authentic
socially active dog pack. As generations passed the previous issues
seemingly faded away nor did we have any issue as to where a buyer
called for behavior advice in fact lots of the puppies received good
citizen awards.
Since
dogs learn a lot by example and through social interactions I let
friends' dogs interact with my dogs with the implementation of their
obedience training. The dogs learned faster, responded quicker to
commands, and were for the most part completely focused on their
handlers during sessions. I then experimented with one of my rescued
dogs that had existing behavioral issues. Within a week the dog was on
his best behavior and was completely obedience trained. Hence our
social rehabilitation program was born.
By mid to late 90's people were comically referring
to me as the dog whisperer (totally unassociated with the TV show) and
I started getting lots of calls. In 1998 I terminated my breeding
program and went on a one man crusade rescuing and rehabilitating dogs.
This is where the rehab program originated and we've been successful
with it ever since.
